SB 1090 Would Increase Burden on Employers

Proposal should be decided by Congress, not Commonwealth

State Senator Don White, R-41st District, voted against Senate Bill 1090 today, saying the issue of raising the minimum wage is one that should be decided by Congress. "There were a number of problems with the bill that came before the Senate today," Senator White said. "Frankly, this is not an issue that should be resolved at the state level. If there is to be an increase in minimum wage, it should be consistent across the nation and therefore set by Congress.

"Additionally, Pennsylvania is already an unfriendly environment for businesses to grow and prosper in and SB 1090 will do nothing to improve our situation," Senator White continued. "In fact, it will likely make Pennsylvania less appealing to companies who are considering setting up business here. We are competing globally for jobs and artificially increasing the cost of labor in Pennsylvania will not enhance our ability to compete."
