Acting
Insurance Commissioner to testify before Senate Banking and Insurance Committee
The Senate Banking and Insurance Committee will hold a public
hearing at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, October 23, in Hearing Room 1 of the North
Office Building, Harrisburg, to take testimony from Acting Insurance
Commissioner Joel Ario regarding the status of the review of the proposed merger
between Highmark Inc. and Independence Blue Cross, as well as an overview of the
health insurance marketplace in Pennsylvania.
"This hearing will provide the Banking and Insurance Committee
with a good basis upon which we can look at the state of health care coverage in
the Commonwealth and what it could evolve into if this merger moves forward,"
said Senator Don White, chairman of the Senate Banking and Insurance Committee.
The hearing is open to the public and the media is cordially
invited to attend the proceedings.
