Mahaffey Authority Receives $2.2 Million in State FundingPENNVEST provides money for sewer upgrade in Bell TownshipThe Mahaffey Borough Municipal Authority today (April 14) received approval for state funding totaling $2.2 million, according to state Senator Don White (R-41). The Pennsylvania Infrastructure Investment Authority (PENNVEST) approved at its meeting today a low-interest loan for the Authority to upgrade its sewer service in Bell Township, Clearfield County, according to Senator White, a member of the PENNVEST Board. The Authority plans to install 18,200 feet of sanitary sewer line, build two residential grinder pumping stations, and rehabilitate two existing pumping stations. Currently, the Mahaffey Camp and Byers Settlement areas of Bell Township are experiencing contamination problems caused by inadequate and deteriorated on-lot sewage systems. More than 80 percent of the private wells in the Byers Settlement were deemed to be contaminated from malfunctioning on-lot systems. "This loan will allow the Mahaffey Municipal Authority to address a problem in the township that is being watched by the state Department of Environmental Protection," said Senator White. "This new system will address the contamination problem and eliminate the hazards to public health and recreation that it creates. In addition, this project will expand the potential for Mahaffey Camp to be more of a year-round facility." Including the loan to the Mahaffey Municipal Authority, PENNVEST has provided approximately $68 million in financing for projects in the 41st District since Senator White was appointed to the board at the end of 2004. "PENNVEST financing has been a key catalyst in promoting several major water and sewer projects in the 41st District which, when completed, are expected to boost our local economy and create job opportunities," Senator White said. "I am proud that I have been able to help bring this funding back for these important projects." Contact: Joe Pittman | ||||
